App privacy

No account or advertising

The app does not ask for a child's name, date of birth, photographs, microphone access or location. It contains no advertising or usage analytics SDKs.

Data on your device

Playlists, favourites, playback positions, settings and activity or guide completion markers are stored on your device and are not sent to the creator. They remain until you delete them. They may be included in backups you manage through Apple; downloaded media is excluded.

The parent PIN is stored in protected form in Keychain until reset. Device-owner authentication is handled by the operating system; the app does not receive biometric data. Drawings are temporary, last only for the open session and are not uploaded.

Video and network access

Version 1.3.0 bundles episodes 1, 2 and 3 with Greek and English narration, selectable subtitles in 13 languages, and parent notes in Greek and English. Local playback of the bundled episodes does not require internet access or a connection to a content server.

For additional episodes made available on sikalias.org, a parent can optionally refresh the public catalog from the parent area and download the Greek and/or English version. Catalog refreshes and downloads require a connection to the server. The server receives the network address and requested resource and keeps the logs described below. Playlists, favourites, drawing content and the parent PIN are not sent. Once a download is complete, the episode plays locally without internet access. Downloads remain on the device until removed.

The earlier versions 1.0.0 and 1.1.0 bundle the first episode. Version 1.0.0 does not refresh the catalog. Version 1.1.0 allows a parent to refresh the public catalog and download or stream episodes from sikalias.org; the associated connections are logged on the server as described below.

Version 1.2.0 includes episodes 1 and 2; version 1.3.0 includes episodes 1, 2 and 3. Both use local playback, with optional parent-controlled downloads for additional episodes.

If you open the website or an external source from the parent area, the destination server receives necessary connection information, such as the IP address and requested page, under that website's policy. See the sikalias.org website privacy policy. Visiting a website is separate from local playback in the app.

Hosting and access logs

The pages and content files on sikalias.org are served directly by Synology Web Station, without a CDN, reverse proxy or other intermediary provider. Web Station keeps HTTP access logs on the server (NAS).

For each request to this server, including file download requests, the logs record:

• the date and time,
• the connection's IP address,
• the URL and HTTP request for the page or file,
• the HTTP response status and response size,
• the HTTP referrer, when supplied.

Logging concerns connections to the server, such as refreshing the catalog, online playback, downloading files or visiting a webpage. It does not record local playback, drawings or the app's local playlists. A file request does not establish that an entire episode was watched. Since the logs retain IP addresses, we do not describe them as anonymous.

How access logs are used

We use these logs to check server operation, investigate connection or download problems and maintain service security. We do not use them for visitor or content usage analytics. Server logging is separate from the app's local data and does not require an analytics SDK in the app.

Log storage and retention

Access logs are rotated and compressed locally on the NAS. The current file and five previous compressed files, with suffixes .1.xz through .5.xz, are retained. Retention follows this rotation; the number of files does not by itself specify a number of days.

No CDN or third-party provider processes or stores these hosting access logs. This statement concerns these logs, not independent services you may use, such as the App Store or email.

Speech

Short stories use device speech synthesis without microphone access. Video narrations are prerecorded audio tracks included in the corresponding video files. Playback does not send text to a voice-generation service.

Support and deletion

If you contact us, we use your contact details and request to reply. Do not include children's personal data. You can ask about or request deletion of your support correspondence using the contact above. We cannot remotely access your local playlists.

Local data deletion and privacy requests. Bundled episodes remain part of the installation and are not removed when local preferences are cleared. The parent PIN can be reset through device-owner authentication.

For questions about server logs or an access or deletion request, contact stasinos@sikalias.net. Deleting downloads or uninstalling the app does not automatically delete logs already created on the server. You do not need to send us a parent PIN, drawings or children's personal data.
