How parents can take part
Leave time for the question before giving an answer. Ask “What did you notice?” and “How could we find out?”. Draw foods together on paper. Observing does not require tasting food or using a knife.

For your child: We ask where water goes and how researchers find answers. We keep protecting ourselves from the sun.
The message for children
We talk about observation, the paths water takes and questions to explore. We do not turn an ingredient into a “villain” or ask children to decide whether to use sunscreen.
Sun protection remains essential
Shade, suitable clothing and a hat are combined with the correct use of suitable sunscreen. Sunscreen is not a reason to spend longer in the sun. Parents follow the product instructions and seek individual advice when needed.
Where octocrylene fits in this discussion
Octocrylene is an example discussed in this adult guide, not a reason for frightening messages in a children’s episode. Opinion SCCS/1627/21 assesses specific uses and exposures. It is neither an endorsement of this series nor, on its own, a complete assessment of a product’s environmental fate.
