Care in the neighbourhood, without leaving it
Agios Ierotheos has a square, a church, a pharmacy, consulting rooms. The building exists so that health is not something that “happens elsewhere”.
Peristeri is a large city. Agios Ierotheos is a neighbourhood inside it: dense, walkable, with memory. The pharmacy was founded here in 1967. It did not arrive from elsewhere. It grew on the same map.
The move to 7 Kyklaminon Street in 2000 was not a change of address. It was a decision to house care in a building that allows it: room for a compounding laboratory, for counsel, for independent practices above. The church opposite is not a photograph’s decoration. It is the square’s fixed landmark.
Many people in western Athens know the Peristeri Medical Centre and the large hospitals well. They are needed. A building on the square does not replace them. The reverse is also true: hypertension, diabetes, a child’s infection, a prescription that must be compounded, a measurement that must be done properly, do not always need an emergency department. They need continuity.
Continuity is the scarce value. The same pharmacist who knows the regimen, the same building where a test can be done, the same street for the child and the grandfather. That is not a “holistic centre”. It is the urbanism of care at human scale.
