Diabetes next to the pharmacy — without becoming a “diabetes centre”
The same building holds pharmaceutical diabetes care, an endocrine practice, a dietetic practice and a diagnostic laboratory. It is not a department. It is adjacency with meaning.
Diabetes pharmaceutical care is a standing part of Sikalias Pharmacy: the regimen, self-monitoring devices, consumables, training in measurement, adherence, the day’s questions. It does not replace the physician. It translates the regimen into a day.
Upstairs there is an endocrine–diabetology practice (Nikitas Skarakis), a dietetic practice (Anna Sikalia) and a diagnostic laboratory (Diagnostic Care). Each room is independent. Nobody “refers internally” as corporate policy. The patient chooses.
The adjacency is not accidental. A person with diabetes often needs, in the same month: a prescription, a measurement, a laboratory test, nutritional guidance, a question about a hypo. If those sit an elevator apart rather than three trips across the city, care becomes more likely.
This site does not brand the building a “Diabetes Centre”. That title would be a lie: there is no shared file, shared management, shared liability. There is, however, a scarce practical advantage for western Athens: the chance to keep diabetes in the neighbourhood, with serious professionals side by side.
For the prescribing physician and for the person living with the regimen, the useful message is the same: on the ground floor there is a pharmacist who treats diabetes as care, not as a shelf.
